Mark S. Scher, P.E., Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Scher has more than 30 years experience in the analysis, design, construction, project management, commissioning and testing of industrial and utility electrical power systems ranging from 120 V to 500 kV. He has been personally responsible for more than 175 projects in twenty-two states and twelve countries. Mr. Scher holds a BS degree in Electric Power Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, a BS degree in Accounting from Siena College, and he is a licensed Professional Engineer in eight states. Mr. Scher is associated with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and is a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE). Mr. Scher is also a member of the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) Transmission Committee and one of the AWEA representatives to the North American Electricity Reliability Council (NERC) Wind Generation Task Force.

 

 

David M. Klein - Executive Vice President / Chief Operating Officer

David M. Klein, Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Klein has more than 18 years experience in the design, construction, procurement, project management and testing of industrial and utility power systems ranging from 4.16 kV to 500 kV. He has been involved and responsible for various aspects of more than 150 projects in twenty-two states and twelve countries. Mr. Klein holds a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a minor in Management, and is a licensed intern engineer in New York. Mr. Klein is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). In 2006, Mr. Klein was named as a Forty Under 40 Honoree by the Business Review. Mr. Klein is also a certified ISO 9000 Quality Auditor.

 

 

Terry R. Kees, Chief Financial Officer

Terry R. Kees, Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Kees has more than 35 years financial operations experience with domestic and international companies in the manufacturing, wholesale distribution and service industries. He has extensive experience in capital formation, IPO’s, SEC-reporting as well as mergers, acquisitions and divestitures. As MSE’s CFO, he is responsible for the tactical execution of key Finance, Accounting, Treasury and Risk Management strategies. In his concurrent position as CG Power Systems Americas’ Regional CFO, he manages all North, Central and South American financial operations. Mr. Kees holds a BBA degree in Business Administration from the University of Portland with a major in Accounting.

 

 

Robert Dickie - Vice President of Utility Services

Robert Dickie, Vice President of Utility Services

Mr. Dickie has more than 40 years experience in Transmission and Substation projects in the USA and internationally, including acting as US and foreign government consultant on Power projects. Mr. Dickie previously was Chief Transmission and Substation Engineer at Gilbert/Commonwealth and subsequently held several Executive positions with Gilbert/Commonwealth. He has personally worked on and directed projects from 34 kV through 500 kV. The projects have included Substation, Transmission and Control Center design. Recent projects have included Transmission and Substation projects from 34 kV through 345 kV. Mr. Dickie is an Electrical Engineering graduate from Coventry University in the UK and has taken extensive post graduate courses in Power Systems Control in the US.

 

 

Rashid Abdul, P.E., Vice President of Renewable Energy and Industrial Services

Rashid Abdul, P.E., Vice President of Renewable Energy and Industrial Services

Mr. Abdul has more than 30 years experience in the electric power generation industry. His extensive management experience includes engineering, construction, start up and commissioning of power generation facilities, business development, government affairs, legal, corporate affairs, environment, technology, research/development, communications, business risk control, corporate social responsibility and quality assurance. Prior to joining MSE, Mr. Abdul held several executive positions at Gamesa Technology Corporation, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America, Inc. and Raytheon Engineers and Constructors. At MSE, he is responsible for Renewable Energy and Industrial Services offered by MSE. He holds MS degrees in Engineering Management and Electrical Engineering Power Systems and a BS degree in Electrical Engineering, all from Drexel University. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in eight states and is a former board member of the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) and previous chairman of AWEA’s Legislative and Transmission committees. He is also an active member of UWIG and CSA.

 

 

Clyde Custer, P.E., Vice President of Operations

Clyde Custer, P.E., Vice President of Operations

Mr. Custer has more than 25 years experience encompassing electric power system design engineering, system planning, asset management, project management, and field operation and maintenance. At MSE, he is responsible for Project Management, Field Services, and Procurement functions. Mr. Custer began his career at General Electric Power Systems division and prior to joining MSE; he has held director positions at National Grid and the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO). Mr. Custer holds a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Clarkson University and is a licensed Professional Engineer in New York State. Mr. Custer is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and he is a certified Green Belt in Lean Six Sigma.

 

 

Mark Nannini - Field Services Manager

Mark Nannini, Field Services Manager

Mr. Nannini has more than 20 years experience in the construction, commissioning and testing of industrial and utility power systems ranging from 600 V to 345 kV. Prior to joining MSE, Mr. Nannini worked in the electrical industry as an IBEW inside wireman. He was involved in many different types of work including utility, nuclear, industrial, commercial and residential projects. Mr. Nannini is a graduate of the NJATC Apprenticeship Program. Mr. Nannini has extensive testing experience with all types of modern microprocessor based relays and relay communication equipment from Schweitzer Engineering (SEL), ABB, Pulsar, Areva, GE and RFL.

 

 

Scott Reynolds, P.E., Engineering Manager r

Scott Reynolds, P.E., Engineering Manager

Mr. Reynolds has more than 8 years of experience designing transmission level power substations ranging from 13.2 kV to 345 kV. Prior to his promotion to Engineering Manager, Mr. Reynolds served MSE in various capacities with increased responsibilities. Most recently Mr. Reynolds was the Lead Engineer of the Electrical Design Department. He has been involved with or responsible for the design of over 50 substation projects. These projects include wind generation, geothermal interconnection substations and utility transmission substations. Mr. Reynolds holds a ME in Electric Power Engineering from the University of Idaho and a BS in Electrical Engineering with minors in Management and Economics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Mr. Reynolds is a licensed Professional Engineer in New York and Pennsylvania and is proficient in power system protection and control.

Mr. Bell has more than 11 years experience in utility and industrial power systems’ engineering with emphasis on protection and control engineering for transmission/distribution substations and systems from 2.4 kV to 500 kV. At MSE, Mr. Bell is personally responsible for managing all aspects of interfacing with our utility clients which includes business development & client relations, personnel management, engineering design decisions & quality control, developing technical specifications, proposals & estimates. Mr. Bell holds a Masters’ degree in Electrical Power Engineering from the University of Idaho and a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Louisiana State University and he is a licensed Professional Engineer in two states. Mr. Bell is an active member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and its Power Systems Relaying Committee. Mr. Bell is also associated with the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) and Electrical Engineering Honor Society Eta Kappa Nu.

Mehmet Arslan, Manager, Pennsylvania Office

Mr. Arslan has more than 9 years experience in civil/structural engineering. At MSE, Mr. Arslan is personally responsible for the detailed engineering designs, developing engineering specifications, preparing proposal packages and technical estimates for transmission/distribution substations and high-voltage overhead transmission lines as well as managing project staffing. Mr. Arslan holds an MBA degree in Business Administration, Corporate Finance from Alvernia University in Pennsylvania, a MS degree in Structural Engineering, Structural Concrete from Cukurova University, Turkey and a BS degree in Civil Engineering from Cukurova University, Turkey. Mr. Arslan is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), a member of TP&C, a subcommittee of IEEE; also he is a member of AISC, as well as American Society of Civil Engineers and Chamber of Professional Civil Engineers, Turkey.

 

 

Edwin “Ed” Tafelski, P.E., Director, Southeastern US Operations

Edwin “Ed” Tafelski, P.E., Director, Southeastern US Operations

Mr. Tafelski has more than 20 years experience in the utility industry. He started his career working directly with investor owned utilities in substation and transmission line design and progressed into the supervision of those departments. Subsequently, he moved from design into the construction phase of high voltage substations and transmission lines up to and including 500 kV. Mr. Tafelski’s experience progressed into the management of operations which included business development, contract negotiations, start-up, building teams of engineers, project management, personnel management and client relations. MSE Power Systems, Inc. has expanded its operations to Florida and Mr. Tafelski manages the operations of this office which services clients in the southeast for high voltage substation, transmission and protection & control projects. Mr. Tafelski holds a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Michigan Technological University, and is a registered Professional Engineer in Florida and Minnesota.

 

 

Ted Schoenberg, P.E., Director, Texas Operations

Mr. Schoenberg has over 40 years experience in the electric power industry in the industrial and utility industries. His experience includes managing engineering design, power system operation & maintenance, sales & marketing efforts for distributors & manufacturers and consulting to rural electric utility systems. At MSE, he is personally responsible for management of MSE’s Texas operations and business development in the area. Mr. Schoenberg holds a BS degree in Electric Power Engineering from Texas A&M University. Mr. Schoenberg is a licensed Professional Engineer in Texas. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) Order of the Engineer, he is also a member of TSPE.

Mr. Rogers has almost 40 years experience in the analysis, design, construction, project management, commissioning and testing of industrial and utility electrical power systems ranging from 4.16 kV to 500 kV. Prior to joining MSE, Mr. Rogers held several management positions in the engineering field. At MSE, he is personally responsible for staff management as well as overseeing all aspects of engineering and design for substation and transmission projects ranging from 35 kV to 500 kV. Mr. Rogers is a licensed Professional Engineer in thirteen states.

Mr. Chen has more than 12 years experience in the electrical design, system studies, protection and control for dozens of domestic and international projects in industrial, utility and nuclear power systems ranging from 4.16 kV to 500 kV. Mr. Chen has dual master’s degrees in engineering with proven power system engineering experience. He has extensive knowledge with varies engineering studies, different protection scheme, and sophisticated power system control. He has his MS degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Toledo as well as an MS degree in Power Systems from Shandong University of Technology. Mr. Chen is an active member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and a licensed Professional Engineer in four states.

Andrew M. Shaw, P.E., Manager, Rhode Island Office

Mr. Shaw has over 9 years experience in protection and control engineering, design and commissioning of substations ranging from 13.8 kV to 345 kV. He has been involved with or responsible for the design of over 25 projects for more than 12 major utilities and numerous private developers. At MSE, he is responsible for the overall execution of projects with an emphasis on ensuring utility and client standards and specifications are maintained. Mr. Shaw has his BS degree in Electric Power Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and he is a licensed Professional Engineer in three states. Mr. Shaw is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
