Home > Case Studies > Kenya, Double Circuit 132 kV Transmission Line Project Kenya, Double Circuit 132 kV Transmission LineBackground:Kenya Ministry of Energy wanted to construct a 70 km double-circuit overhead transmission line to reinforce the power grid in Kenya. The schedule for this project required fast-track lattice type tower design in order to maintain the construction schedule. The Problems:The proposed schedule for this project was extremely challenging due to the need to reinforce the country’s grid network. An additional challenge was the need to design the towers in International units rather than American units while adhering to acceptable safety standards. Tower Fabrication drawings were prepared to International Codes and Standards. The Solution:With its extensive international experience CG Power Solutions is familiar with the relevant codes and construction practices familiar to the areas where the line will be constructed. CG Power Solutions designed and created plan and profile drawings suitable for the local construction company. For this project, CG Power Solutions designed six types of double-circuit lattice towers with multiple leg and body extensions and six types of foundations that were suitable for the Kenyan power grid while still meeting international standards. The project was successfully delivered by CG Power Solutions on schedule and within budget. |
