Background:A prominent New York (US) utility needed to construct a 345 kV, single circuit aerial line to interconnect a new 700 MW power plant to the state’s power grid. The Problems:The project route passed through a city and required an intense permitting operation in addition to fast track detailed engineering. The project schedule allowed 1 year for this complete process. The Solution:MSE was selected to permit, engineer, and procure materials for the line. MSE performed sophisticated EMF analysis to satisfy local project opponents that the proposed line posed no safety hazard to residents. MSE also provided detailed construction plans to the New York State Public Service Commission as required to determine the impact on construction activities on the city. In addition, MSE provided a complete construction design package (actual construction was selfperformed by the utility) and performed procurement services for the utility. All MSE deliverables for the project on schedule and within budget. |
